THE PAST WAS YESTERDAY
RECENT WORKS BY KIYOMI TALAULICAR
Sepia notes tinge the works with quiet melancholia and there is an unmistakable sense of loss in the images of a rocking horse, standing still, or elsewhere, a chair, left abandoned. Before long, you realize that there is an absence present, in the depiction of familiar household objects lying around, as if they belong to no one. Kiyomi's exquisitely layered paintings lament of times past.. the period of grieving is over but the memory of loss remains, and the leaf becomes a symbol of solitude, its fragile veins, trembling with diffidence. Will the darkness never cease?
Imperceptibly the sky lights up and in that early dawn light, the artist discovers her own resilience, her destiny, that has been blessed by the fading stars and azure skies.
